ASIS Structure and Qualifications

ASIS is divided into local, regional, and international levels. More than 200 local chapters now exist in the United States and in many other countries.

The Board of Directors is the principal policy-making and governing body of the Society. The directors are elected by the membership and represent the interests of the individual member. The Executive Committee of the Board, composed of the Society's officers, directs the affairs of the Society between meetings of the full Board.

The Regional Vice Presidents oversee the needs of the chapters and members in each geographical region.

Of the more than 30 Standing Committees/Councils, roughly half are concerned with security problems affecting businesses such as banking and financial institutions, educational institutions, health care facilities, public utilities, and retail establishments. The other half address general security problems such as terrorism, physical security, computer security, privacy and information management, investigations, white collar crime, fire prevention and safety. Members of these committees/councils prepare special reports and other publications, conduct security studies, and develop educational programs which focus on specific security topics.

At ASIS International Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, a permanent staff carries out the day-to-day operations of maintaining membership records, publishing the Society's periodicals and reports, planning educational programs, and promoting the Society and its acti vities.
